Real and raw energy

In a world full of noise, R.A.R.E. is about bringing out your Real And Raw Energy in a space where you feel safe to be your real self and connect with others.

Friday, 6:30 – 8:30pm Alma Studios, Surry Hills $25 per class

Why

You take class and learn the choreography

But maybe you’re still wondering:

  • What am I doing wrong?
  • Why doesn’t it look how I want it to?
  • How do I improve?

Most dance classes teach choreography but don’t necessarily provide individual feedback. Teachers have limited time and a room full of dancers, and they don’t always know who wants feedback, who’s comfortable being corrected in front of others, or who’s simply there to enjoy the class.

Because of that, small mistakes often go unaddressed and can become habits over time. You leave knowing the routine, but not always how to improve.

RARE Training Club bridges that gap through feedback, coaching, mentorship, and purposeful practice, helping you build better habits and make real progress.

Training

Training sessions are built on five core pillars that support every stage of your development.

RARE is a weekly Hip Hop dance training program built to take you past simply learning routines. Every session combines foundations, choreography, coaching and deliberate practice, so you build real skills, confidence and consistency.

01

Foundations

Everything starts here. Foundations are the building blocks that help dancers move with confidence, control and consistency.

Foundational Grooves

Learn the fundamental grooves that form the foundation of Hip Hop movement that you use in every class.

Musicality

Develop the ability to hear, interpret and move with the beat.

Timing & Rhythm

Improve your ability to hear, understand and use different speeds to stay connected to the beat.

Movement Quality

Build better body awareness, coordination and control to make your movement cleaner and more intentional.

Community

We are not here to be the best.
We are here to be better.

Being part of RARE is not defined by talent, experience, or how many years you’ve been dancing. It’s defined by your willingness to learn, grow, and show up.

You understand that real progress doesn’t come from pretending to have it all figured out. It comes from having the courage to be challenged, coached, corrected, and supported.

Safe To Learn. Safe To Grow

RARE is a safe space to learn, ask questions, receive feedback, and grow.

Better People Through Dance

Through dance, we build confidence, discipline, connection, and growth.

We All Shine

We’re here to show up, not show off. Share the space, support others, give everybody a chance to shine.

Community Before Status

We grow together. Support one another, share what you know, and keep improving.

Energy For The Team

Bring your energy, uplift each other and have fun. We grow stronger together when we are in a positive learning environment.

About

Real and raw energy

In a world full of noise, expectations, and pressure to fit in, R.A.R.E. (Real And Raw Energy) is a place where you can show up exactly as you are. It’s a space built on authenticity, connection, and personal growth, where people feel safe to step outside their comfort zone, express themselves, and be part of something bigger than themselves.

R.A.R.E. Training Club was created by James and Clark, brought together through their shared passion for dance and the positive impact it had on their own lives.

Why We Created R.A.R.E.

We believe growth changes lives. R.A.R.E. was created to help people build confidence, overcome self-doubt, develop new skills, and discover what’s possible when they’re supported by a positive community.

How We Do It

We bring people together through a shared love of dance. More than just movement, dance creates opportunities for self-expression, confidence, connection, and personal growth in a welcoming and supportive environment.

What We Do

R.A.R.E. offers hip hop dance training for all experience levels, focusing on foundations, choreography, coaching and personalised feedback, dance training, and performance and confidence development.

Our goal isn’t just to create better dancers. It’s to help people become more confident, connected, and empowered versions of themselves.

FAQ

Questions

Do I need experience to come?

A basic level of dance experience is recommended. You should feel comfortable picking up at minimum beginner-level choreography and participating in a structured dance class. Many of our dancers have previously attended James’ classes, or have experience in other dance styles. Absolute beginners are encouraged to build some foundational experience by joining James Deane’s Sydney Dance Company classes before joining RARE training club.

What happens in a training session?

A typical RARE training session is designed to help you grow as a dancer through a mix of foundations, choreography, coaching, training and performance. You’ll start by strengthening your groove, musicality and core foundations before progressing into choreography that challenges you to apply those skills in a more complex way. Throughout the session, you’ll focus on movement quality, performance, drills and training exercises that help build confidence, consistency and control. James will provide personalised feedback and coaching along the way, helping you understand your strengths, identify areas for improvement, and refine the details that elevate your dancing. The focus isn’t just on learning choreography, it’s about developing the skills, habits and mindset that help you continue improving every time you step into the studio.

How is this different from a normal dance class?

Most dance classes focus on teaching a routine and keeping the class moving. RARE is different because it’s designed around coaching, feedback and dancer development.

Throughout each session, James Deane works closely with dancers, providing personalised feedback, technical corrections and guidance tailored to each individual’s strengths and areas for growth.

What does it cost, and how do I book?

$25 per class, booked through TryBooking (opens in a new tab). Spaces are very limited, so book ahead rather than turning up.

Where is it and how do I get there?

Studio 7, Alma Studios, 103 Foveaux St, Surry Hills NSW 2010. It’s a 6 minute walk from Central Station, and there’s free 2 hour parking in the surrounding streets.
